Celebrating Local Art &
Community Resilience
The Year of Flowers is an annual curated calendar and print collection bringing together Oʻahu artists to honor local flora, native species, and island life. More than just a calendar, this project serves as a collective canvas—amplifying local creators while generating reciprocal support for community initiatives across the islands.
2027 Artists
HAWAIʻI WOMEN'S ARTIST COLLECTIVE • OʻAHU
Malia Chau
"Connecting with my heritage to celebrate the subtle magic of island flora and light."
Mediums: Acrylic, Watercolor, & Digital Drawing Studio: Kula Collections @Kula_Collections
When Malia moved to Oʻahu in 2018, her artistic practice became a personal journey to reconnect with her Hawaiian roots. Translating the subtle magic of island life—from light filtering through leaves to the joy of being draped in lei—her work celebrates local flora while inviting others to explore their own backyards and ancestral heritage with reverence and wonder.
Morgan Grae
Medium: Fine-Line Ink & Graphite
Studio: The Color Grae @morgan.grae.art
"Noticing and appreciating the smallest little details is an artist’s superpower."
Drawing from childhood memories of wild sweet peas along Oregon backroads and a lineage of creative women, Morgan Grae brings a quiet, contemplative depth to botanical art. Working primarily with pen, pencil, and worn nibs, her stark black-and-white drawings highlight shadow play, intricate leaf patterns, and delicate textures—inspiring viewers to slow down and take a closer look at the natural world.
Jax Preciado
Medium: Liquid Acrylic, Watercolor, & Mixed Media
Studio: Jax Preciado Creative @JaxPreciado_Creative
"Painting faces and flowers as a quiet practice of presence, patience, and tenderness."
Flowers are a constant reminder of emotional reclamation and growth. Creating these botanical pieces is my practice of presence, patience, and tenderness: turning daily observations of island light, shadows, and flora into space for all of us to pause and bloom. I wanted to curate a calendar that feels like a shared home for local artistry—bringing together different mediums, textures, and island perspectives so that every single month offers a moment of grounding beauty."
Rooted in a lineage of powerful, creative women, visual artist Jax Preciado uses her studio practice to transform daily observations into intentional art. Her work balances raw, reflective watercolor washes with vibrant, decisive acrylic movements—inviting viewers to honor the strength of gentleness and hold truth and tenderness in the exact same breath.
Creative Connection
as Community Health
Studies show that regular engagement in arts and culture supports overall well-being and longevity at rates comparable to physical exercise. Creative expression isn't a luxury—it is essential healthcare, community resilience, and human connection.
The A Year of Flowers 2027 calendar is the founding project under Reciprocal Futures. We are building a supportive peer guild where local creators share resources, elevate each other's work, and make art accessible across the islands.
