Reciprocal Futures Artist Collective

Connecting local Hawaii creatives through community, mentorship, and collaborative art.

Cultivating Community Power Through Art

Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.

Are you a creator, maker, or storyteller?

Whether you are an established artist or just starting your journey, there is a place for you here.

Reciprocal Futures is a grassroots movement dedicated to redirecting creative resources back into local ecosystems. We believe art is not an isolated commodity, but a living tool for community resilience, cultural preservation, and shared wealth.

The Heart of the Movement:

Our Artist Collective

Connection & Community

Founded by Jax Preciado, the Reciprocal Futures Artist Collective is a network for Oʻahu-based artists, writers, and creative facilitators. We build sustainable community through regular artist meetups, collaborative exhibits, storytelling spotlights, and trauma-informed youth mentorship programs.

Whether you are looking to connect with fellow working artists, share your creative story, or contribute to local art accessibility, we invite you to a join us.

The Vision: Reciprocal Futures

Reciprocal Futures is a collaborative ecosystem designed to build sustainable, high-integrity infrastructure for women artists across Hawaiʻi.

By pooling our creative labor, production channels, and B2B networks, we eliminate the steep barriers of island isolation and high manufacturing costs—creating self-sustaining revenue streams that keep artists working, thriving, and rooted in their practice.

Our debut collective project, A Year of Flowers 2027, brings together four women artists, practicing creativity in Hawaiʻi.

Printed locally in partnership with Kiʻikau, this fine art calendar and greeting card collection establishes a shared retail footprint that honors our individual narratives while lifting our collective presence.

Reciprocal Futures Mission:

To increase the accessibility of writing, art, and creative education, while actively supporting the growth of women artists in Hawaiʻi through mentorship, collaborative art projects, networking, and skill-building for both youth and adult creators.

Aloha & Welcome, Artists!

I am so honored and grateful to bring this project to life alongside each of you.

Building A Year of Flowers 2027 comes out of a deep love for our creative community and a desire to build real, sustainable infrastructure for local artists in Hawaiʻi. Having spent years developing curriculum, organizing community showcases, and navigating the nuances of production and distribution, my goal is simple: to make sure you feel fully supported every step of the way, and to ensure our pipeline runs smoothly, transparently, and stress-free.

This page holds all our key dates, payment details, and submission steps so you have total clarity. Thank you for trusting me with your work, for sharing your creative story, and for being an essential part of this collective journey.

With gratitude and care,

Jax

Community in motion:

exploring raw pigment, organic texture, and collaborative storytelling.

Through The Noticing Practice, time spent takes on a deeper meaning:

  • Noticing the double smile lines accumulated through decades of joy on a senior portrait.

  • Painting the light blue and lavender shadows from a sunset beach photo of my newborn daughter eight years later, remembering every detail of that day.

  • Holding truth and tenderness in the exact same breath.

I paint to notice what is beautiful, and to transform what I once learned to carry alone.

Aloha, I’m Jax Preciado.

Mija. I carry the girl I was and the woman I am with a name that holds love across generations.

Creative practices have always been my way of making sense of the world—a way of composting overwhelm into action and transforming it into something new. Painting faces and flowers is my practice of presence, patience, and tenderness.

Who I Am

My path is rooted in my lineage.

I come from women who were educators, creators, and powerful in their conviction—women like my Grandma Josie and my Aunt Launchie, who lived with chronic illness and still used their hands to create beauty, play piano music, write letters to senators, and paint flowers on a blue dresser.

Long before I called myself an artist, I noticed the world. I kept a visual inventory of coral light glowing across the water, the squeak of packed snow underfoot, and the quiet textures of daily life.

My body remembers how I was loved into being—by my grandmother’s hands, her tender voice asking if I would stay just a moment longer: "Hi, Mija."

I could feel the strength of her gentleness. That same gentleness is what I bring to my studio, my practice, and this collective.

I love you.

2027

THE VISION

A Year of Flowers 2027 is more than a wall calendar—it is a collective, tactile storybook celebrating 12 months of local art, growth, and connection across Hawaiʻi.

Printed locally in partnership with Kiʻikau Printers, this project bridges fine art with everyday life. Each month features an original floral masterwork paired with the artist’s unique story, studio practice, and narrative voice.

By bringing our collective work under one shared vision, we share production costs, expand our reach into local retail stockists, and uplift one another as a thriving artist collective.

Youth Art & Writing Workshops

Empowering the next generation of storytellers through reciprocal funding.

  • Paid Local Teaching Artists: Utilizing proceeds from our adult masterclasses, A Year of Flowers 2027 calendar sales, and local grant partnerships to pay local artists standard, living-wage rates to teach.

  • No-Cost Access for Youth: Providing free, high-quality art supplies and writing instruction to local Hawaiʻi youth, fostering self-expression, storytelling, and creative agency.

  • Exhibition Opportunities: Giving young artists a platform to publish their prose and showcase their visual art alongside established community mentors.

Status: Program Development & Funding Phase

We are actively establishing fiscal sponsorship and applying for state and community art grants (SFCA & HCF) to launch our first youth cohort.

Every calendar purchase and adult masterclass enrollment directly subsidizes workshop seats and supplies for local youth.
